Salvo excepciones, el despliegue de esta tecnolog\u00eda basada\u00a0<strong>en filamentos de vidrio y haces de luz<\/strong>\u00a0ha permitido que millones de hogares accedan a la red de redes a velocidades antes impensables de manera sim\u00e9trica y estable, como el 5G+. Pero\u00a0<strong>no toda la fibra \u00f3ptica<\/strong>\u00a0es igual. Est\u00e1 la fibra \u00f3ptica como tal y la fibra coaxial o fibra h\u00edbrida coaxial. \u00bfQu\u00e9 fibra ofrece Movistar? \u00bfQu\u00e9 es la fibra FTTH?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por fuera son simples&nbsp;<strong>cables de pl\u00e1stico<\/strong>. Pero por dentro, hay varias diferencias en ambas redes. Identificar una red de fibra \u00f3ptica o FTTH y una red de fibra \u00f3ptica HFC o fibra coaxial no es f\u00e1cil, pero tampoco imposible. Sus prestaciones y caracter\u00edsticas son similares pero no id\u00e9nticas. Tambi\u00e9n difieren en&nbsp;<strong>estabilidad y velocidad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pero antes de empezar a&nbsp;<strong>diferenciar entre fibra coaxial y fibra \u00f3ptica<\/strong>, te adelantamos que la&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.movistar.es\/particulares\/internet\/adsl-fibra-optica\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fibra ofrecida por Movistar<\/a>&nbsp;a sus clientes es de tipo FTTH. Fibra que&nbsp;<strong>llega hasta tu hogar directamente<\/strong>, ya vivas en una casa o en un bloque de pisos. De la central intermediaria de Movistar a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogthinkbig.com\/router-movistar-smart-wifi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tu router<\/a> a trav\u00e9s de fibra \u00f3ptica. Te lo explicamos a continuaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-la-fibra-coaxial-uniendo-dos-tecnologias\"><a><\/a>La fibra coaxial, uniendo dos tecnolog\u00edas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Empecemos por la&nbsp;<strong>fibra coaxial<\/strong>. No hay que confundirla con el&nbsp;<strong>cable coaxial<\/strong>&nbsp;de toda la vida, el que hasta hace unos a\u00f1os hac\u00eda posible&nbsp;<strong>hablar por tel\u00e9fono fijo<\/strong>&nbsp;y\/o conectarnos a Internet a trav\u00e9s de la l\u00ednea telef\u00f3nica. Sin embargo, tienen relaci\u00f3n. La fibra coaxial corresponde a una red&nbsp;<strong>h\u00edbrida entre la fibra \u00f3ptica y el cable coaxial<\/strong>. De ah\u00ed que se la conozca habitualmente como fibra coaxial h\u00edbrida o fibra h\u00edbrida coaxial. Emplea tanto cable de fibra \u00f3ptica como cable coaxial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La fibra coaxial combina ambas tecnolog\u00edas, cable de cobre y\/o fibra \u00f3ptica. Se trata de una tecnolog\u00eda veterana y que empez\u00f3 a implementarse en los a\u00f1os 80 y 90 del siglo pasado en Estados Unidos. Tambi\u00e9n se la conoce por su acr\u00f3nimo&nbsp;<strong>HFC<\/strong>,&nbsp;<em>Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial<\/em>&nbsp;en ingl\u00e9s, fibra coaxial h\u00edbrida en castellano. Fue usada por las&nbsp;<strong>empresas de televisi\u00f3n por cable<\/strong>&nbsp;para transmitir sus contenidos a los hogares. Y con el tiempo, se ha venido usando tambi\u00e9n para&nbsp;<strong>ofrecer conexi\u00f3n a Internet a gran velocidad<\/strong>&nbsp;aprovechando que la infraestructura ya estaba implementada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El motivo de&nbsp;<strong>combinar fibra \u00f3ptica y cable coaxial<\/strong>&nbsp;fue b\u00e1sicamente por el coste que ten\u00eda el cable de fibra \u00f3ptica en sus primeros a\u00f1os. En sus inicios, la fibra \u00f3ptica empleaba&nbsp;<strong>vidrio como conductor del haz de luz<\/strong>&nbsp;que transmite los datos. Su <a href=\"https:\/\/blogthinkbig.com\/como-se-fabrica-la-fibra-optica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fabricaci\u00f3n es delicada<\/a> y, por ende, costosa. Con el tiempo se introdujeron nuevos m\u00e9todos de fabricaci\u00f3n que facilitaron mucho las cosas y abarataron los costes. Es por ello que las instalaciones de fibra de hace unos a\u00f1os fuera&nbsp;<strong>de tipo fibra coaxial<\/strong>&nbsp;mientras que en los \u00faltimos tiempos se ha venido popularizando la fibra \u00f3ptica FTTH, m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil y econ\u00f3mica de instalar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.movistar.es\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/04\/6077-Fiber-Optic-Cable.jpeg\" alt=\"FTTH\" class=\"wp-image-203828\" \/><figcaption><strong>Fuente<\/strong>: Brand Factory Telef\u00f3nica<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-la-fibra-optica-ftth-internet-a-gran-velocidad\">La fibra \u00f3ptica (FTTH), internet a gran velocidad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>La fibra \u00f3ptica, dec\u00edamos, es una evoluci\u00f3n del cableado para conectar redes, permitiendo que empleemos tecnolog\u00edas impensables hasta hace unos a\u00f1os, como el <a href=\"https:\/\/www.movistar.es\/blog\/5g\/cobertura-5g-evolucion-redes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>5G+<\/strong><\/a>. En vez de emplear cobre, como los cables coaxiales, emplea un n\u00facleo de vidrio. Un hilo fino de vidrio que transmite un haz de luz a gran velocidad. Este haz transporta los datos, permitiendo as\u00ed desde llamadas de tel\u00e9fono a videollamadas, jugar online, consumir televisi\u00f3n por Internet y un largo etc\u00e9tera de servicios. Todos&nbsp;<strong>a trav\u00e9s de la misma conexi\u00f3n<\/strong>&nbsp;de fibra \u00f3ptica. La fibra \u00f3ptica tambi\u00e9n se emplea en sensores, iluminaci\u00f3n y otras tecnolog\u00edas para medicina o industrias especializadas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En funci\u00f3n del tipo de red de fibra \u00f3ptica, se clasifica a partir del acr\u00f3nimo FTTx, que significa&nbsp;<em>Fiber to the<\/em>, es decir, \u201cfibra hasta\u201d un punto en concreto de la red. Por ejemplo, la fibra que comercializa Movistar se conoce como FTTH. Su significado es&nbsp;<em>Fiber to the home<\/em>, fibra hasta tu hogar, lo que significa que toda la red entre Movistar y tu domicilio&nbsp;<strong>emplea fibra \u00f3ptica<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En el pasado fueron m\u00e1s habituales otros tipos de redes FTTx, algunas de ellas todav\u00eda en pie. Estas otras redes&nbsp;<strong>emplean cobre en alg\u00fan punto de la red<\/strong>, por lo que las podemos clasificar como redes HFC. Vamos,&nbsp;<strong>fibra coaxial<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>FTTB<\/strong>&nbsp;(<em>Fiber to the building<\/em>): la fibra&nbsp;<strong>llega al edificio<\/strong>. Se distribuye a cada domicilio a trav\u00e9s de cable de cobre (cable coaxial) o cable de red.<\/li><li><strong>FTTN<\/strong>&nbsp;(<em>Fiber to the node<\/em>): la fibra&nbsp;<strong>llega a un nodo<\/strong>, que hace de intermediario entre el proveedor y cada barrio o zona. De ah\u00ed a tu domicilio, se conecta con cable coaxial.<\/li><li><strong>FTTC<\/strong>&nbsp;(<em>Fiber to the cabinet<\/em>): la fibra&nbsp;<strong>llega a una cabina<\/strong>&nbsp;de telecomunicaciones, similar a un nodo. Para el usuario, la fibra \u00f3ptica ofrece&nbsp;<strong>m\u00e1s velocidad de subida y bajada<\/strong>. Adem\u00e1s,&nbsp;<strong>conexiones sim\u00e9tricas<\/strong>, es decir, misma velocidad de subida y bajada. Las conexiones tambi\u00e9n son m\u00e1s estables y&nbsp;<strong>sin p\u00e9rdidas de velocidad<\/strong>, ya que la se\u00f1al se transmite igual desde el punto de origen, a diferencia de tecnolog\u00edas anteriores como ADSL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otra ventaja interesante es que la fibra \u00f3ptica no padece&nbsp;<strong>interferencias electromagn\u00e9ticas<\/strong>, ya que emite fotones o haces de luz, no corriente el\u00e9ctrica. Aqu\u00ed se diferencia de las conexiones de fibra coaxial, ya que&nbsp;<strong>el cable de cobre s\u00ed env\u00eda se\u00f1al el\u00e9ctrica<\/strong>. Esto significa que pueden&nbsp;<strong>producirse interferencias<\/strong>&nbsp;o que la&nbsp;<strong>velocidad de la se\u00f1al<\/strong>&nbsp;no sea uniforme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por estas caracter\u00edsticas, la fibra \u00f3ptica FTTH se convierte en la mejor aliada para explotar al m\u00e1ximo tecnolog\u00edas nuevas como el <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.movistar.es\/particulares\/movil\/tarifas-moviles\/5g?segmento=particulares\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">5G+<\/a><\/strong>.
